Physio Plus Newcastle - Meet The Team

HelenHelen Reed
Helen qualified from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc (hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 1996. She started her physiotherapy career working in the NHS at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, gaining experience in all aspects of physiotherapy. Helen then specialised in musculo-skeletal physiotherapy in 1999. The musculo-skeletal department at the Freeman Hospital has well respected orthopaedic surgeons who continue to refer their private patients to her at Physio+. Helen moved into the private sector full time in 2003, and founded Physio+ in 2007. She has continued to develop her specialist physiotherapy skills through post graduate training. Her particular areas of interest relate to rehabilitation of shoulder and knee injuries. Helen is also heavily involved in treatment and management of sports injuries.

She has been the Northumberland County Rugby physio for the past 10 years and has provided physiotherapy for Tynedale RFC, Morpeth RFC, Durham County Rugby, North of England Under 18 Rugby and Newcastle Vipers Ice Hockey team.

CathrynCathryn Clark

Cathryn qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2001 graduating from Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh. She started her career at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and then moved to the University Hospital of North Durham in 2003 where she specialised in Musculo-skeletal Physiotherapy. She continues to work in the Musculoskeletal field in North Tyneside as well as here at Physio Plus.

She has special interests in spinal problems, chronic pain and sports injuries. Cathryn has completed post graduate courses, including a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine from The Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (Musculoskeletal studies) from Teesside University. Cathryn has been involved in sports physio for the past 10 years and is currently Head Physiotherapist for Northumberland County Rugby Union.

Cathryn has worked with London Wasps RFC, Whitley Bay Rockcliff RFC, Newcastle University RLFC, Gateshead Thunder, Whitley Bay Barabrians RLFC.

KateKate Disley
Kate gained her BA(Hons) in Sport  from Durham University in 2004. She continued her studies and qualified as a Sport and Remedial Massage Therapist in 2006. She holds a Level 4 Sports Massage Association (SMA) approved qualification and is a member of the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage (ISRM) as well as being affiliated to the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and the Sports and Remedial Therapies Council (SRTC). Kate is a qualified in Kineso taping Level K1 & K2 and to keep up to date participates in continued professional development training courses annually. Since qualifying Kate has worked with a wide range of clients, from elite athletes to those with general medical complaints/injuries. She has worked with numerous sports teams including Wasps RFC, Durham City RFC, and Durham University Hockey Club and worked at the London Marathon and The Great North Run offering pre and post event massage. Kate enjoys keeping active and fit and is a passionate follower and player of rugby union. She has previous representative honours for County, Regional, and England Youth squads.  She currently runs out in the Number 8 shirt for successful local ladies team Novos Panthers, Rugby World Team of the Month in May 2011.

NickyNicky Rose
Nicky graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 1994 from St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London and University of Westminster. She then worked in two London teaching hospitals for 8 years where she specialised in musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy.  She completed her MSc in physiotherapy in 2003. Nicky worked in a private hospital’s outpatient department and sports injury clinic for five years in Edinburgh treating patients with musculoskeletal pathologies and vestibular disorders.  She then moved to Newcastle and has worked at the Freeman/RVI hospitals in the outpatient musculoskeletal department specialising in patients with upper limb problems since 2009. Nicky has also been involved in teaching physiotherapy students at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh and Glasgow Caledonian University.

Nicky qualified as an APPI pilates instructor in 2008. She has taught pilates since then both in groups and on a one to one basis. Nicky joined the team at Physio Plus in 2010 to offer Pilates sessions.
